Publisher's Synopsis

June 1971

See what the President of the United States saw fifty years ago!

  • June 1, 1971. Israeli Prime Minister Meir allegedly has met with Soviet representatives in a remote area of Finland."The press story claims that Mrs.Meir made the trip unannounced from Stockholm." In other words, the CIA doesn't actually know whether our best ally in the Middle East has met with our biggest enemy.
  • June 3, 1971. "The Soviets are preparing to launch another manned Soyuz spacecraft within the next several days. Support ships are taking positions to monitor the flight and could all be in place in 4-5 days." Then there's an interesting redaction. Probably not talking about a rendezvous with UFOs, but it would be nice to know for sure.
  • June 4, 1971. "A Y-class ballistic missile submarine is heading toward a patrol station off the US West Coast." It's good that we knew this. The PDB doesn't seem to have felt the need to go into sources & methods.
What feedback would you have given the CIA on its reporting?

There is no better way to understand the events of the past than to read the same materials as the actual decision makers did. An ideal resource for teachers, students, home schoolers, and scholars. Readers who enjoy learning about international politics and intelligence will find this volume fascinating.
