Nolli's famous map of Rome, which he prepared in 1748, is still regarded as one of the foremost documents for the study of the city's urban history. There is no more detailed map of Rome for the 18th-century or before. This facsimile has been printed using the most modern techniques, resulting in a faithful reproduction of Nolli's classic work, even compass points and construction lines are visible.;The work is prefaced by an introduction, "Portrait of a City", by Allan Ceen which discusses the iconography of the decorative illustrations used, the topographical and cartographic significance of the map, its background and the history of the map and of those who made it.
