Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 78: February 17, 1916

A question closely connected with the previous is this: In what mental and intellectual condition did man first appear on earth?

A certain class of scientists tell us that man appeared on earth but little removed, in intelligence, from the brute creation. By slow degrees he rose, they say, from this condition until he reached a state of very crude civilization. After ages of development he reached the stone age; then the bronze age; then the iron age. Ages are needed for each stage in this evolution.
