Publisher's Synopsis
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has been in existence for a little more than a decade. During that time it has rendered ten advisory opinions and decided three contentious cases. To date, however, the work of the Court has received comparatively little description or analysis. - - This incisive book fills that gap in legal literature. It examines the institutional context of the Court within the Inter-American system together with its structures and procedures. The Court?s competence under its advisory and contentious jurisdictions are examined in detail. Substantial attention is devoted to the developing jurisprudence of the Court with particular emphasis placed upon its conception of the Inter-American human rights system. Where appropriate, parallells are drawn with other international judicial institutions.
