Publisher's Synopsis
The Grace of Christ, Revised Edition, sets forth the apostolic gospel of God. In it, Christ's death, which justifies sinners, is given its rightful place - that of first importance. The new creation, which is the rule of "life in Christ Jesus," is also given its rightful place. Believers in Christ died with Christ to sin and the law, and are alive to God in Christ Jesus. So, we are obligated to live according to the Spirit of God, and no longer according to the flesh. The distinction between the old and the new covenants is also clearly explained.
The Grace of Christ, Revised Edition, shows that Christ alone is sufficient - for being justified before God, for sanctification, for true freedom now, and the certain hope of eternal life with God in the age to come. Here is a book that seeks to apprehend everything in light of the CHRIST of the apostolic gospel of God. May God's Spirit use God's word to remove the veil, so that we are enabled to behold the glorious grace of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Our desperate need is for the church to be continuously reformed according to the gospel of God in all its aspects -- including the first importance (centrality) of justification in Christ, through faith alone.
The truth from the Westminster Confession of Faith, Book 1, namely: 'The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for his own glory and man's salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly stated in Scripture or by good and necessary inference may be deduced from Scripture...', is applied in this book, with this further application: the scriptures from which we deduce are primarily those which designate themselves to be apostolic in origin. We believe that counter-interpretations of Paul's gospel, which oppose Eric's, will not be able to make that claim, for he interprets Paul by Paul.
