When you hear the word "Bag Lady," the first thought that probably comes to mind is a filthy homeless woman pushing a grocery cart full of what we would call "junk." We rarely stop to consider her mental state or the value of her possessions. What if I told you that lady was a CEO of a company, a mother of three children, a minister of the gospel, and a college graduate? As women, we are groomed from childhood to be independent and self-sufficient. We are taught never to trust anybody because people will always abuse us. These are negative seeds that have been planted in many of us as children. As we grow older and life starts happening, those seeds take root and manifest into bitterness, rejection, and feelings of inferiority.Our failures, broken relationships, past molestations, and abandonment issues have caused us to clothe ourselves with an identity that does not belong to us. We have adopted this identity of walking around acting like we have it all together, when in fact, we're one step away from having a nervous breakdown or one check away from being homeless.So, who is this Bag Lady? She is the one who shines when she steps into the room, who's clothed in humility, yet walking around with clutch bags filled with remnants of a painful past. What I love most about being able to carry around all these different types of bags is the fact that I can always put them down when they get too heavy to carry, and so can you.
