N ous allions publier le Theatre de_la Fontaine quand nous avons lu dans le Journal de l'empire du_24 août 1 8 1 1, le passage suivant, où M. Géoffi*oî nomme les pieces qui doivent composer ce recueil. Je m'étonne que dans l'édition des oeuvres diverses de La Fontaine, donnée par Maûcroix, et dans toutes celles que j 'ai vues, on ait inséré des pauvr'etés telles que la comédie de Climene, les Opéra de Daphné, d'astrée de Galatée, qui sont tout ce qu'il y a de plus insipide au 1i10nde et qu'on n' y ait pas mis de fort jolies pieces, telles que la Coupe enchantée; Bagotin, ou le Romain comique; le Veau perdu et retrouvé; La Coupe en chantée étoit autrefois au courant du répertoire quelques-uns l'attribuent à Champmèlé; mais la plupart des littérateurs 'l'1' donnent à La Fontaine. On veut aussi que le Veau perdu et'retrouvé soit de Champmèlé parce qué ce fut lui qui présenta la piece aux comédiens mais l'opinion la plus commune et la' plus probable est qu'elle appartient La Fontaine. Personne ne lui' conteste Ragotin et l'on peut juger qu 'un homme tel que La Fontaine aura su tirer parti du Roman [de Scarron qu' on nomme comzçué à si juste tilre; car il 5? A peu d' ouvrages aussi plaisants. Conooitîon la négligence et l'infidélité des éditeurs du 'ihéâtre de La Fon taine. Non contents de farcir leur édition d'une foule de niaiseries indignes de l'auteur, ils ont supprimé les piecesqui peuvent lui faire lionneur.
