Excerpt from Storia Cronologica dei Vescovi Mantovani
Le storie tenebrose di que 'tempi nulla o poco ci rammentano di questo primo vescovo Gregorio, che senza meno avrà gareggiato in zelo co 'cittadini verso quel Deposito sacro che il Pontefice avea gli consegnato, e che destava in tutto l'orbe cristiano lo stupore insieme e la devozione. Obbediente all' invito del suo Patriarca, fu egli in Verona alla solenne consecrazione di s. Giorgio, ceremonia che venne decorata da numeroso convegno di Vescovi e celebrata col più lieto festeggiamento. Non conosciamo con certezza a 'qual epoca sia Gregorio mancato alla sua Chiesa, ma dovea senza dubbio trovarsi fra gli mtintinell'823, perciocchèa tal anno ci scontriamo nel secondo vescovo di nome Lajulfo.
