Excerpt from Standard Descriptions of Vegetables; Peas: A Guide to Seed Growers
In preparing these descriptions at lea-st four strains of each variety were grown. This was thought to be the best means Of Obtaining material from which typical plants could be selected for the descriptions and photographs. 'it was found, however, that. There was a considerable difference between the strains and also within the strains themselves, which rendered it difficult to decide upon the correct type. The members of the vegetable committee, when in session at their Vancouver meeting, were asked to examine the photographs of both vines and pods, with the result that those pictures included herein were accepted as typical for the varieties.
Being a descriptive bulletin, as a guide to seed growers, there has not been any reference made to yields, nor have the comparative merits Of the varieties been discussed. The chief Object has been to place in the hands Of seed growers a type book so as to establish uniformity for each variety throughout the country.
