Publisher's Synopsis

Red Grooms (born 1937), a Nashville native who moved to New York City in 1956, is a fascinating figure in postwar American art. He first gained recognition for happenings and filmmaking, and shortly thereafter shifted to the production of large-scale installations and environments. Although working in a variety of media through which he mines traditional subjects--portraiture, landscape and still life--his results are distinctly personal and readily recognizable.

Featuring the artist's signature paintings, reliefs, sculptures, installations, prints and films spanning 1971 to 2015, Red Grooms: Traveling Correspondent explores these factors through the lens of the artist's works relating to New York and Tennessee. These two radically different environments most shaped his oeuvre and provide an excellent overview of his artistic production.
