The scottish rhymes are almost all of a certain age; and I beseech the courteous reader to believe that I am not to blame for their defects. Could I have made them more deserving of his or her attention, for which I enter. Tain as much sincere respect as it is possible to cherish for that of those whom I know nothing about, be assured the verses would have been entitled to the utmost praise.
