Betty Ann is gone and the Payne Ranch is slowly but surely going downhill. But Billy Harshburger doesn't really care. Betty Ann is gone and there is nothing to live for. Rachel and her family show up and she asks if Billy will keep a promise he made to her when she was a teenager. Will he let her manage the Payne Ranch? Of course he will keep his promise. He has no interest in it. Betty Ann is gone and he has no one to care for; no one to show off to. Then early one morning, Mary Lou calls.
