This book has two parts. Part Two, One For My Baby, starts with Bruno on his boat for a test run. He never returns. The circumstances set her on the course of justice and a return to the streets (ever hear of Lady of Easy virtue?) is part of that.
The last part of the story, Part Three, One More For The Road, happens when her visit with her mom ends with a death. Taking care of the estate delays her plan to hit the road and see the West, where she panned to find her future. It doesn't work that way. This was her home when she was younger, and she finds those memories are asset rather than obstacle. Her stay stretches until she becomes part of the community.
