Excerpt from Nottinghamshire Parish Registers, Vol. 4: Marriages; Newark Wapentake, Second Part
In this, the fourth volume of Nottinghamshire Marriage Registers, the whole of the marriage entries previous to 1812 contained in the registers of ten parishes and one chapelry, Staunton, in the Newark Wapentake, are printed with the exception that, owing to their bulk, those of Newark itself are carried down to the end of their third volume, 1753, only. It is hoped that the remainder of these may be printed at an early date, together with the marriages for the rest of the parishes in the Wapentake, of which only those in the northern part now remain untranscribed.
The method followed in making these abstracts is the same as that adopted in the previous volumes of this series. The spelling of the surnames has been preserved exactly as in the registers, while that of the christian names has been modernised, in order to avoid useless repetition of illiterate or phonetic orthography.
