Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Nicholas Biddle's Journey to Greece in 1806

Nicholas Biddle was born in Philadelphia in 1786. He was apparently very precocious for he entered the University of Pennsylvania with the class of 17 99. He was, however, taken out of college because of his extreme youth and later entered Princeton from which he graduated in 1801. In 1804 he went to France as secretary of the American legation, and was abroad for three years. On his return from Greece he became secretary of the legation in London. I need not speak of his later life. He became a prominent banker and died in 1844.
