Publisher's Synopsis

In this work, written at the time when we hear so much of the dangers of German propaganda in Mexico, Mr. Ackerman tries to point out that although Mexico could not have been a very powerful ally to Germany, weakened as she is by long political turmoils, she might have been a very disagreeable neighbor to the United States, she herself, of course, suffering the most for it.
The dilemma continues to be the same for Mexico to-day. Will she be a friend or a foe to the United States? Mr. Ackerman shows clearly enough some of the reasons why the antagonism exists, and although he does not suggest directly a way to end it, the questions raised in the reader's mind by the clear exposition of facts make this book interesting and opportune.
At the same time that Mr. Ackerman tells us of the means used by the Germans to influence Mexico in their favor and against the United States, he describes different phases of the life, political intrigues and press propaganda in that country. The easy, anecdotic, fluent style, the good illustrations and cartoons add to the interest of the book, just the same as the copy of the new Mexican constitution and articles on Mexican Railways, the American Chamber of Commerce, etc., in the Appendix, add to its usefulness.
