The first American printing of Ellis's essay, the second of his reports - originally printed in the Contemporary Review' - on his experiments with mescaline, conducted privately, on Good Friday, 1896. The greater part of the volume is given to the 'General Appendix', which is a catalogue of scientific discovery for that year; other notable contributions include Wilhelm Rntgen on X-Rays.
