Publisher's Synopsis
A novel that envisages the systematic sexual abuse of young girls in a northern English town like Rotherham. The town is bedevilled by a weak chief executive, a corrupt police force and a gang of unscrupulous Pakistani men. We witness the part played by corrupt taxi services, and the way young girls are groomed and put to work in brothels. Three ordinary citizens affected by these events - a single mother of teenage girls, a female teacher, and a young male journalist - join forces to discover what is going on and to try and confront it. At the same time the abused girls begin to fight back, aided by the town's Muslim community. Their stories overlap with that of a young Pakistani wife who is kept as a virtual slave by her violent and unscrupulous husband, until she too starts to retaliate.
