Publisher's Synopsis
The reclamation of redundant dockland areas has been a recurring theme of European urbanism over the past decade. London Docklands is the largest urban waterside development project in Europe as well as the least controlled through conventional planning methods. What type of urbanism follows from this experiment is largely the basis of this book. The author charts a decade of Docklands redevelopment looking primarily at the buildings, landscapes and urbanism created. Four areas are studied - the Isle of Dogs, Surrey Docks, Wapping and the Royal Docks.
