The aim of the volume is to indicate potential applications of various approaches in theoretical and descriptive linguistics to the organization of dictionaries. Vice versa, there is equal emphasis on the ways in which problems in the lexicographic description of languages can have very real effects on theory formation. The volume concentrates on a discussion of English dictionaries in this connection.
