When a series of events triggers a temporary halt to global oil production, the repercussions are economic collapse followed by complete social breakdown across the world. Andy Sutherland, a civilian engineer, is stranded in Iraq when the British army is forced to pull out. Desperate to find a way home, he becomes a target for every militia gunman. Back in London, Andy's wife and children are on their own while, in the space of a week, London is transformed into a chaotic vision of hell. But the closer Andy gets to home, the more he senses a global plan behind this apocalypse, and the dawning realization that someone may be after him - or worse still - his family, for what he knows.
