Publisher's Synopsis
Eyewitness accounts of September 11, 2001 and the wars of the 17th century span the scope of the contributions in this volume. An analysis of the mass media portrayal of the "deeds" of the cruiser Emden in the First World War - one of the contemporary myths - stands alongside analyzes by Max Frisch's "The Great Wall of China" and the writings of Pat Barker. The volume is characterized by a variety of approaches and yet only represents a small spectrum of the range of possible topics. The articles are supplemented by reviews of relevant new publications and a bibliography of scientific publications from 2005.
