This observational study was conducted to determine the risk factors of knee osteoarthritis in elder women at the Lahore General hospital and P.S.R.D, Lahore. A history was taken from 75 women having diagnosed knee osteoarthritis and quissionares were provided to find out possible risk factors. The results showed that out of 75, 50 (66.7 %) women were with weight ranging between 70 to 100 kgs while 25 (33.3 %) have weight between 50 to 70 kgs while the height of most of the women 47 (62.7%) lies in the range of 4 to 5 feet.Out of 75 patients 67 (89.3 %) belong to middle class, 74 (98.7 %) were married, of which 46 (61.3%) were house wives and 29 (38.7%) were working women with 30 (40%) having work experience of more then 10 years. In my study out of 75 Osteoarthritic women, obesity was present in 50 women (66.6%) (BMI more than 25 kg/m2) 43 (57.3%) were hypertensive, 42 (56%) commits of frequent prolong standing, 43 (57.3%) prolong sitting, 44 (58.6%) kneeling, 11(14.6%) had previous knee injuries, 4 (5.3%) have positive family history and hand osteoarthritis was found previously in only 7 (9.3%) of them.It was concluded that major risk factors of knee osteoarthritis in women are increasing age, obesity, prolong sitting, prolong standing, frequent squatting, previous knee injury, hypertension, positive family history and hand osteoarthritis.
