John "Jack" Charlton OBE DL, born on 8th May 1935, Ashington, Northumberland, England, UK was an association football player and manager who played as a defender. Jack played for the England team that won the World Cup of 1966 then managed the Republic of Ireland national team from 1986 to 1996, qualifying for two World Cup final competitions and one European Championship final stages. His entire club career from 1950 to 1973 was at Leeds United, Charlton helping the club to the Second Division title (1963-64), First Division title (1968-69), FA Cup (1972), League Cup (1968), Charity Shield (1969) and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1968 and 1971), along with another promotion from the Second Division (1955-56) and 5 runner-up finishes in the First Division, 2 FA Cup final defeats and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup runner-up. Jack's 629 league and 762 total competitive appearances remain club records.
