Eight years ago foreign developments seemed to be of little importance to the American petroleum industry. Yet, within the past few years considerable attention has been attracted by foreign oil production and refining. How ever, much that now appears to be significant in the world oil problem had its inception prior to the present decade.
In recent years the increase in the number and capacity of foreign sources of crude petroleum, considera tions of national economy, and improvements in refinery technology have contributed to the establishment of petroleum refineries in many foreign countries and to ih creases in capacity and efficiency of refineries in countries that had oil plants.
