Publisher's Synopsis

"Homeless" is a study of homelessness in Inner London and the ways in which the St Mungo Community Housing Association have sought to ease this problem by providing direct help and hostel accommodation for men of all ages, who find themselves destitute and friendless and reduced to sleeping beneath the railway arches, on the Thames Embankment, in shop doorways or on the city streets.;It is aimed at a wide general readership and includes personal stories of people who have found themselves homeless after leading what appeared to be successful lives. There are also photographs depicting the nature of homelessness, the people mentioned and those who have wrestled to find a solution to this problem during the 1970s and 1980s.;The author George Tremlett while a member of the GLC Housing Group (1977-91) laid down the structural framework within which projects like St Mungo's could gain the resources to tackle homelessness. St Mungo's is now seen as a model for other such schemes.
