Publisher's Synopsis

America was not at war and it did not seem like they would be entering the war in Europe. Most Americans were content to live their lives without an involvement in the European war. However, on December 7,1941, the Japanese attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This brought the United States into a Pacific Ocean war and a short time later Germany declared war on the United States. When World War II started Mike enlisted under special conditions in the Coast Guard. His knowledge of running the lighthouse, made him an excellent choice to be commissioned as the commander of the lighthouse station. The operation at the lighthouse ran quite smoothly for several months, however in October a turn of events occurred and Mike was ordered to change services and take a captain's commission in the army. It seemed that Mike owned property in North Africa. He had friends and associates in certain parts of North Africa where his plantation was located. At that time, Mike and mostly everyone didn't have the slightest idea that the Allies would invade North Africa. Mike eventually learned that he was to go to North Africa on a special mission. Flying to his report area in North Africa was a long and roundabout flightpath. Mike's plane would leave Boston and fly north to Iceland.
