Strong as the sun, thy steadfast Faith sublime, Burst thro' the gloom and cheered pale sorrow's time, Nor ever left thee, in the darkest hour, The sport of worldlings, or of Fortune's power. And when that eve arrived, that solemn eve, When thou wast called thy worldly home to leave, When chill thy frame and icy-cold thy brow, Wiped by the hand that pens these numbers now, N o terrors came thy waking soul to fright.
