Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Experiences of a Forty-Niner
When, after a lapse of more than forty years, a release from many of the active duties of a busy life afforded an opportunity for the revision of his manuscript, this was attempted solely for its presentation in a more suit able shape to his immediate posterity, and with no View of publication.
While it may seem a departure from the intention here set forth, that the work of the printer should be substituted for that of the scribe, it can scarce be regarded a wide one, when it is known that the circula tion will still be restricted to a small circle of readers composed of friends and acquaintances who, upon per sonal grounds, might be thought to take an interest in a perusal of the volume.
