Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Discussions on the Gospels
With the exception of a few tri?ing corrections, the only changes made in this new edition of my work will be found in the insertion of a number of additional notes and illustrations, and of an entire chapter in Part Second, bearing chie?y on the proper authenticity of the Gospels as recently challenged by M. Renan. I have not found any reason to doubt the soundness of the general conclusion which it was my object to establish, or to distrust the validity of the several arguments by which it is supported. On the contrary, after the most careful and repeated consideration of the views here set forth as to the Language of our Lord and His dis ciples, and the most earnest and grateful attention to the remarks of reviewers, it is with increased confidence that I again submit this portion of my work to the judgment of Biblical scholars.
