A reciprocity treaty with Canada was negotiated in 1854, which continued in operation for ten years and came to an end by limitation. Favored exchange of products with the Hawaiian Islands was established in 1875 by a reciprocity treaty, which remained in force up to the time of the annexa tion of the Islands to the Union, and was an important factor in bringing about that result.
