Es ist unbekannt, wann Stassfurt erbaut worden jedoch ver muthet' man, dass es seine Entstehung den Salzquellen zu verdanken hat. Geschichtlich werden diese durch Agricola zuerst nachgewiesen, welcher die scharfe Seele von Stassfurt rühmte. Der Ort selbst ist zum ersten Male in der Geschichte Karl's des Grossen erwähnt worden und zwar Ende des 8. Und Anfang des 9. Jahrhunderts.
