Miss Freeman, who gave the diary, is a granddaughter of the Honorable James Lewis, of Pepperell, a prominent member of the Middlesex bar, who died in Boston, on February 6, 1845, at the age of sixty years. A long time ago I was told that there were other diaries kept by Mr. Emerson, which may be still in existence.

Some years ago I gave a copy of the ordination sermon to Library, and the titlepage runs, line for line, as follows.
