I cowered in my room listening to my mother's screams echo throughout the house. My sister was clinging to my side as fear overwhelmed her. I could not stand for this anymore. He has shed enough of her blood, and has stoked fear in everyone in the home. I instructed my sister to remain in the room as I ran toward the bellowing screams of my mother. I crammed my tiny body in between my step-father and my mother, transferring the beating from her to me. I have had to do this more times than I can count. Me shielding my mother's body with my own was not something that a twelve-year-old child should have to do; much less endure the horrific beatings that still haunt my dreams at night. Think of this as my diary; it holds my most haunted memories and thoughts. I was made to suffer a long winding road of abuse; sexual, emotional, and physical. This is my story of survival. This is a true account of my life and the horrendous abuse that I suffered at the hands of people who was supposed to love me. There is a little bit of everything in this book: abandonment, abuse, neglect, love, and a happy ending. Writing this book has started me on my long journey of healing. My hope is to shed light on what drug addiction does to children inside of the home. The addicts are not the only ones who suffer.
