Publisher's Synopsis
This book is the result of the Art's Council initiative to collate examples of close collaboration between schools and practising artists, galleries and museums in order to influence the thinking of the National Curriculum Art Working Party.;A major concern was the general lack of proper relationship between art in schools and contemporary practice. The Arts Council has a particular responsibility for contemporary professional practice in the arts and to promote an awareness of its scope throughout the field of education.;This book is in two main sections. The first is concerned with advice to schools and a consideration of current issues affecting art education. The second consists of a series of accounts of successful projects carried out in schools, most of them involving practicing artists. It is hoped that, in spite of the logistical difficulties, the book will encourage teachers to attempt similiar schemes of their own.
