Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Characteristics of Christian Morality: Considered in Eight Lectures
The Lectures remain, as at first, a mere outline, without any attempt to fill in the details.
Some objection has been taken to the brevity of the Lectures. I must plead guilty, if it is a fault, to having tried to compress what I had to say into as small compass as possible. This appears to me more important than ever in an age when, it is said, there are almost as many writers of books as readers.
Imperfect as they are, I dare to hope that these Lectures may call attention to three great principles originating in psychology and dominating the whole region of ethics, which are not, I think, recognised as they should be, either by opponents or defenders of Christianity.
