L'autoipnosi o autoipnosi (a differenza dell'eteroipnosi) è una forma, un processo o il risultato di uno stato ipnotico autoindotto.
Frequentemente, l'autoipnosi è usata come veicolo per aumentare l'efficacia dell'autosuggestione; e, in tali casi, il soggetto svolge il duplice ruolo di suggeritore e suggeritore.
La natura della pratica auto-suggettiva può essere, ad un estremo, "concentrativa", in cui "tutta l'attenzione è così totalmente focalizzata su [le parole della formula auto-suggettiva, ad es. "Ogni giorno, in ogni modo, sono sempre meglio"] che tutto il resto è tenuto fuori dalla consapevolezza" e, dall'altro, "inclusivo", in cui i soggetti "permettono a tutti i tipi di pensieri, emozioni, ricordi e simili di andare alla deriva nella loro coscienza". l'ipnosi è ampiamente utilizzata nell'ipnoterapia moderna. Può assumere la forma di ipnosi eseguita per mezzo di una routine appresa.
L'ipnosi può aiutare a gestire il dolore, l'ansia, la depressione, i disturbi del sonno, l'obesità, l'asma e le condizioni della pelle. Quando questa pratica è padroneggiata, può migliorare la concentrazione, ricordare, migliorare la risoluzione dei problemi, alleviare il mal di testa e persino migliorare il controllo delle emozioni. Ai pazienti stressati e/o privi di autostima possono essere insegnate tecniche di autoipnosi che possono indurre rilassamento e /o rafforzare la loro autostima. Nello specifico, una volta che il paziente è in uno stato di autoipnosi, il terapeuta può comunicare messaggi al paziente, consentendo il processo di rilassamento e rafforzamento.
Spesso, quando si insegna l'autoipnosi, a un soggetto viene insegnata una specifica "parola scatenante" (che indurrà l'autoipnosi solo quando il soggetto usa deliberatamente la parola per ipnotizzare se stesso) per facilitare la rapida induzione dello stato ipnotico.114 Inoltre, una frase (spesso definita "autosuggestione") potrebbe essere insegnata al soggetto da ripetere a se stesso durante l'autoipnosi.
Inoltre, poiché lo stress impedisce il buon funzionamento del sistema immunitario, i ricercatori della Ohio State University sono giunti alla conclusione che l'autoipnosi per prevenire lo stress può anche aiutare a proteggere il sistema immunitario dagli effetti negativi di esso. Lo hanno dimostrato dimostrando che gli studenti che hanno eseguito l'autoipnosi durante le settimane stressanti degli esami hanno mostrato un sistema immunitario più forte rispetto a quelli che non hanno imparato l'autoipnosi.
