Publisher's Synopsis
Changing artistic practice is altering the way we interpret, conceive, conserve, collect and curate art. An ever-increasing range of new materials and media used in the making of contemporary art presents conservators and curators with huge challenges to the traditional notion of what is authentic to the artwork. Should the work be allowed to perish or should change be allowed and accepted? The changing roles of the curator and conservator are addressed in this volume, that underlines that any procedures undertaken in the conservation of contemporary artworks must not compromise their often multilayered 'authenticity' and draw attention to the need for new interpretations of this concept in order to confront the impact of novel approaches in artistic practice.
