Publisher's Synopsis
There has been increasing attention in the early 1990s on the health benefits of fruit and vegetables and, in particular, of their antioxident properties. There is evidence that high consumption of vegetables and fruit can help protect against coronary heart disease and some cancers. With this rationale in mind the advice to the general public has been to eat at least five protions of fruit and vegetables a day. This report recognizes the gap between the recommended and actual consumption of fruit and vegetables in the UK and looks at factors influencing the gap. It goes on to deal with the strategies to encourage a better diet amongst the population and barriers which would prevent this from happening.
