Die beiden Blattformen werden in Floren und den durftigen, nur die Formverhailtnisse kurz angehenden systematischen Be schreibungen als "fertile und "sterile unterschieden. Die er sieren sind langgestielt und tief fiederformig eingeschnitten, sie erreichen ansehnliche Grosse (nicht selten 1 m und mehr). Die "sterilen dagegen sind ungestielt, viel kurzer, und sitzen dem Stamme mit breiter Basis auf (vgl. Fig. Die Blattfiaehe springt uber den Ansatzpunkt des Blattes beiderseits vor, und diese Ausbreitung der Blattbasis liegt beiderseits dem Fern suunm, oder dem Baum auf welchem letzterer wachst, dicht am, die Blattbasis ist also stark "herzformig. An ihrem Rande sind die "sterilen Blatter fiederforrnig eingebuchtet. Auf ihrem Rucken sind dieselben convex gewolbt. Sie bilden durch ihre anliegende Basis und die eingekrummten Seitenrander mit dem Stamm eine oben ofi'ene, unten (nicht wasserdicht) geschlossene Nische, und ich werde sie desshalb im Folgenden als "nischen b151tter bezeichnen. Sie besitzen recht starke, nach unten vor springende Rippen, auf deren Funktion unten zun'iekzukomrnen sein wird. Auch Nektarien, auf welche ebenfalls Spater etwas naher eingegangen werden soll, finden sich auf diesen Blattern.
