Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from An Appeal to the Common Sense of the People
As the circulation of gold and silver alone would be cumbersome and inconvenient, the Republicans established the national bank ing system, which gives the people a currency for which they can obtain gold or silver on demand. As every dollar issued by these banks is secured by a pledge of United States bonds deposited in the United States Treasury, no bill-holder has ever lost a cent by them, nor is it possible for him to do so, unless the government itself becomes insolvent.
