Writings are either public or private. Some public wri tings are of record; others, not of record. Again, public wri tings may be distinguished into such as are of a judicial char acter, and such as are not judicial. It is preposed to treat, in the first chapter, of the admissibility and effect in evidence of judicial writings; and, in the second, of the effect of such public writings as are not judicial. The subsequent chapters will relate to the proof of writings, both public and private.
