Publisher's Synopsis
I wrote this book to help the child in all of us overcome the fear we feel when life in- evitably sets us on unexpected and mysterious new paths. When we are forced to leap forward but are unable to quickly trust our readiness to master the move, we feel fear. Although exquisitely painful, fear cannot be empowered to freeze us. We cannot allow it to rob us. We stare fear in the face and unhesitatingly enter our new path. This is a pattern in life that we must recognize and embrace. I felt intense fear when I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 1991. I would lose parts of my body and possibly my life. Shortly after my last surgery, I received the inspiration for this book by observing a family of house finches in a nest above my back porch. I hear their songs and feel their joy to this day. The lessons learned from A Pattern of Birds: The Last Chick have empowered me, and I truly hope they will touch you and your loved onesas well. Patricia Carleen WinieckiJune 1995/March 2018
