The book describes the love triangle of a young woman, Elfride Swancourt, and her two suitors from very different backgrounds. Henry Knight is the respectable, established, older man who represents London society. Although the two are friends, Knight is not aware of Smith's previous liaison with Elfride.THOMAS HARDY OTHERS WORK INLCUDEDesperate RemediesFar from the Madding CrowdThe Hand of EthelbertaJude the ObscureA LaodiceanThe Mayor of CasterbridgeA Pair of Blue EyesThe Poor Man and the LadyThe Return of the NativeTess of the d'UrbervillesThe Trumpet-MajorTwo on a TowerUnder the Greenwood TreeThe Well-BelovedThe Woodlanders
