Bookseller Notes
An attractive eighteenth-century vernacular collection of sermons and sundry other pieces attributed to Thomas Kempis, translated from the edition of Henricus Sommalius (1534-1619). The Imitatio and other works by Thomas Kempis, whether in anglo-catholic firebrand Richard Challoner's famous translation or in anonymous versions, remained popular with Anglo-Catholics into the nineteenth-century. Like that work, these tracts stress an interior spiritual life, meditation, rejection of the world's materialism, and the practice of Holy Communion to strengthen faith. The present edition is scarce, with just eleven copies listed on OCLC.
