Publisher's Synopsis
Eliane and Jonathan are in a love relationship so riddled with obstacles that fate seems to deny them a future together. Frustrated, Eliane turns away from God and flees into drugs. In her hallucinations she is transported to a place called Thornland, a barren, dreary landscape without water and full of dangers, yet also concealing hidden beauty. Here a mysterious otherworldly being, The Seducer, becomes Eliane's guide and travelling companion. Soon she gets to know other entities of this realm: the naive butterfly girl Elanor, the awe-inspiring winged guards, and finally the dreaded Thorn King, the dark ruler of this country, secluded in his Gothic fortress.
Back in her own world, Eliane seeks fulfilment or relief in the Gothic scene of her town. There she meets the teenager Hannah, who she feels atttracted to due to their similar traumatic backgrounds. Can Eliane's trips into Thornland provide her with answers to her own questions and means to help Hannah?
The Valley of the Thorn King features some of the protagonists of its predecessor, The Lake of Love Forlorn. It can be understood, however, without reading the first novel in this series.
