Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Wohnen, Stadtsoziologie, Note: 1,0, Helmut-Schmidt-Universitat - Universitat der Bundeswehr Hamburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Obwohl die Problematik schrumpfender Stadte in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nicht ganzlich neu ist, stellen die derzeitigen Entwicklungen die Stadtplanung vor enorme Herausforderungen, vielmalig entwickelt sich eine tendenziell negative Eigendynamik. Nicht allein Stadte leiden unter Schrumpfungsprozessen, sondern ganze Regionen, die sich mit einer wachsenden "Entleerung" konfrontiert sehen. Gegenwartig sind die neuen Bundeslander in besonderem Mae davon betroffen, bedingt durch massive Abwanderung der Einwohner. Auch die alten Bundeslander werden in absehbarer Zeit mit diesem Problem konfrontiert, weil die demografische Entwicklung in absehbarer Zeit ihre Wirkung auf die gesamte Bundesrepublik entfalten wird. Mit Aufkommen der modernen industriellen Grostadte und dem massiven Zuzug landlicher Arbeitskrafte in die Stadte und Stadtregionen konnte Stadtentwicklung bislang mit Wachstum gleichgesetzt werden, wobei es diesen in erster Linie zu steuern und zu verteilen galt. In Politik und Gesellschaft wird Schrumpfung als stark negativ konnotierter Begriff gehandelt und oftmals als Zeichen fur wirtschaftlichen Abstieg einer Stadt oder Region mit abqualifizierendem Akzent wahrgenommen. Angesichts des drastischen Bevolkerungsruckganges ist offensichtlich, dass in der Stadtplanung und - entwicklung ein Umdenken notwendig geworden ist, da Wachstum zukunftig nicht mehr die zentrale Determinante im Stadtentwicklungsprozess sein wird. Der Sinn fur alternative Stadtformen und -identitaten sollte dementsprechend gescharft werden. Um die komplexen Wirkungszusammenhange stadtischer Schrumpfungsprozesse zu verstehen, fragt diese Arbeit nach den zentralen Ursachen und Folgen schrumpfender Stadte fur die Stadtentwicklung.
