It was long-listed for the Wole Soyinka Prize for African writers and shortlisted for both the Sunday Times Literary Prize for Fiction and the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize for Creative Writing.
A second Vee Johnson novel ('The Score') is due for publication in the US & Canada in 2018. Hawa is currently working on the third book in the Vee Johnson series.
Hawa is one of the very few black African women writing crime and has been a guest at literary festivals in the UK, Nigeria and South Africa.
