UIT was founded by Niall Mansfield in 1992 and incorporated in January 1993. Originally the company provided consultancy in computer networking and the Internet. Niall Mansfield had written several computer books for Addison-Wesley, and in 2003 Philip Hazel of Cambridge University, who occasionaly worked freelance for UIT, wanted to publish a new edition of the book about his Exim email software, that we had used in many large projects. That was the first book we published. Subsequently the company moved out of computer consulting, and is now devoted entirely to publishing. (Our origins are apparent because specialist computer books are still part of our focus.)
