After her parents are killed in a boating accident, Emily Cray decides to move to Bourbon County, Kentucky, to restore her mother's ancestral home, Clarewood. The plantation has fallen into ruin since the close of the Civil War thirty years before. Emily's heart has been carefully guarded since a betrayal as a very young woman. Then, Daniel Moore moves to a neighboring farm with his adorable red-headed children. He sets up a law practice in the town of Paris. Emily immediately falls in love with the Moore children who lost their mother to childbirth.
